About the role:
- Full Time, Maximum Term Contract until 30 June2019
- Shifts are generally from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm or from 8:00am to 8:00pm; some weekend work may be required
- IHBSS provides 7 days a week service (8am to 8pm - 7 day rotating roster)
- Hours of service will reflect the needs of the consumers and therefore some extended hours coverage may be expected
Peer Support Workers are integral members of the team and draw on their lived experience of recovery from mental illness, to instill confidence and hope in others about the journey of recovery.
You must have a lived experience of your own mental illness and a rich understanding of your own processes of recovery. You must be willing to purposefully use your own story to help others further their own understanding of recovery.
You will also:
- Play a pivotal role in supporting consumer entry to the service and play a key role in orientating the consumer to the service
- Co-facilitate the Optimal Health Program which is a self-management program based on the Collaborative Therapy approach
- Operate Flourish, a peer facilitated recovery-based self-development program
- Play a vital role in supporting entry and exit from service
Skills and Experience Required
You will have:
- The ability to adhere to principles and values
- Experience in building relationships
- Established communication skills
- The ability to plan, organise and solve problems
- The necessary skills to be adaptive to change and challenges
- Lived experience of mental illness and demonstrated experience of recovery
- Demonstrated experience in facilitating groups, including the ability to prioritise different needs within a group
- Valid Working with Children Check and Driver’s Licence
- Working Rights

Mandatory requirements:
- Current Working with Children Check
- Australian Working Rights
- Drivers licence
- A Suitable Vehicle – A roadworthy vehicle insured to a minimum level covering 3rd party fire and theft (comprehensive cover is recommended). The vehicle must be capable of transporting multiple passengers in a safe manner
- Must provide a Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services, Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or above, or complete such a qualification within 2 years of your commencement of employment
- Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
