Provide innovative, person-centred support to people living with mental illness in the community at our IHBSS sites

Full citizenship for all people living with a mental illness in Australian society

About the Role

  • Full Time, Maximum term contract until 30 June 2019
  • Shifts are generally from Monday to Friday 9:00am to 5:30pm or from 8:00am to 8:00pm; some weekend work may be required
  • IHBSS provides 7 days a week service (8am to 8pm - 7 day rotating roster)
  • Hours of service will reflect the needs of the consumers and therefore some extended hours coverage may be expected
  • IHBSS aimed at people aged 16 years over experiencing acute episodes of mental illness
  • Up to 3 months of intensive support is provided at home after leaving a hospital as a way of ‘stepping down’ or ‘stepping up’

The Community Rehabilitation and Support Workers will work within the Intensive Home Support Services (IHBSS) program.

Neami National's work with consumers occurs within their own community of friends, family and neighbourhood. Due to the intensive nature of the role it is essential for the successful candidate to have the ability to work autonomously, work with people experiencing acute episodes of mental illness, have strong assessment and planning skills, work collaboratively with clinical partners and demonstrate strong time management skills.

Core duties

  • Provide direct support and rehabilitation to consumers within their community
  • Working with community partners
  • Maintain records and resources
  • Engage consumers and develop trusting and professional relationships
  • Collect, collate and maintain data on consumer contact

What will you bring to the role?

  • Relevant experience in a similar role
  • Ability and willingness to work effectively as part of a team, to meet program goals and objectives.
  • Knowledge of complex mental health and drug and alcohol issues.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills
  • Be a team player
  • Knowledge of the recovery model

Mandatory requirements:

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Australian Working Rights
  • Drivers licence
  • A Suitable Vehicle – A roadworthy vehicle insured to a minimum level covering 3rd party fire and theft (comprehensive cover is recommended). The vehicle must be capable of transporting multiple passengers in a safe manner
  • Police check (refer to PD) – disclosable outcomes considered
  • Must provide a Mental Health (or equivalent Human Services, Community Services) qualification of Certificate IV level or above, or complete such a qualification within 2 years of your commencement of employment
